With the development and extension of massive multiplayer online game, players are increasing and spreaded all over the world. Because the restriction of finance and technology, the location of the server may be different from the area that players locate, which leads to users suffering high latency or even cannot connect to the game servers. which can not give the players a comfortable gaming experience, additionally may lead to the loss of the player and profit. For example, currently the most popular massive multiplayer online shooting game: PUBG(Player unknown‘s battlegrounds),becasue Bluehole Company didn’t set up servers in mainland of China, most Chinese player need to use vpn-like technology to reduce high latenacy while gaming to get regular gaming experience. otherwise, this game is not playable for chinese player.

 

VPN(Vitural Private Network) and GPN(Gamers Private Network) are currently most popular solution for reducing high latency. Most online game boosters are using pptp and p2tp protocol to build tunnels between users and game server, which would likely improve your online game performance and mask your ip address as well. However, instead of masking your ip address, GPN ensures that users’ connection would not be hidden and encrypted because GPN only focuses on optimizing network traffic performance.  

 

Base on the need of gaming services, many companies have exploited accleratorfor game by the principle of VPN, which could effectively reduce the latency and packet loss. In the meanwhile, there is a company also developed an accelerator called GPN based on the optimization of the game line. Our project is dedicateto find the difference between GPN and VPN-based game booster. For example, the working principle of VPN and GPN; weather GPN is better than VPN or not, and the reason. If possible, based on the current knowledge and technology, find a better way to solve the problem.

 

On the market, there are great numbers of online games booster applying VPN technology and ‘WTFast’ is the only one who uses GPN. We intend to run PUBG with different boosters and analyze game performance and network traffic data. The analysis would help us find out pros and cons of each technologies and possibilities of future evolution.
